The highlights.
Hi! I’m Cynthia J. Tong and I’m a Tony-nominated, Drama Desk Award-winning Asian American producer focused primarily on helping to bring vibrantly entertaining, artistically rigorous, and deeply meaningful works to the stage.
I recently joined No Guarantees as Vice President, Artistic, where I will help lead the development and production of No Guarantees’s growing slate of theatrical projects.
Prior to that, I was a Producer at Tom Kirdahy Productions (TKP), where I played a vital role in the production and development of their world-class projects including the “smash hit” (Chicago Tribune) Broadway musical Just in Time. In 2025, I was named one of Variety’s “41 Under 40: New Leaders” and selected for the prestigious The Shubert Organization Artistic Circle.
I believe deeply in genuine community building within the theater industry, and creating thoughtful and intentional access to the business side of theater. To that end, I co-created and co-organize the Celebrating AANHPI Theatremakers on Broadway Brunch (est. 2025, @aanhpi.bway), co-founded The Industry Standard Group, and teach at Montclair State University and Business of Broadway. In addition, I’m an Associate Member of the Broadway League (serving on the Rising Stars Task Force), a guest speaker & lecturer, and a resume & cover letter editor.
I’ve worked on the producing teams of over 25 projects including musicals, plays, concerts, fundraisers, and one theatrical experience over the phone during quarantine, spanning from Broadway to off-Broadway to regionally in the United States to the U.K. I have the incredible privilege of collaborating with some of the legends in our field as well as with many exciting up-and-coming artists and creators.
About Me
A bit more about me.
I’ve never met a board game I didn’t like. Graphic novels & Webtoons are my happy place (especially under a blanket). Cross stitching is my new Zen activity, and I’m a dedicated tea drinker. I love naps! I grew up Rancho Palos Verdes in Los Angeles, but no one believes I have an ounce of “California” in me. I’m now based in NYC (11 years in and just getting the hang of it!). My mom’s from Taiwan & dad’s from Hong Kong. I have hard core oldest child energy. My artistic roots are in dance & movement. Prior to working in theater, I worked in retail, childcare, education, and pharmaceutical advertising. Proud alum of Wesleyan University (B.A., Sociology with Honors), co-chair of the Wesleyan AAPI Alumni Network.
